Fabulously Frugal Mama – Couponing

I will admit it I was very intrigued when I saw the commercials for Extreme Couponing.  How could they really pay $20 for $500 worth of groceries?  I give them a lot of credit.  The time they spent preparing and then shopping.  It’s crazy and extreme, that’s for sure.
I believe that if you can save money on products using coupons and sales ads it is fantastic.  BUT are you really going to us all the products.  For me there is no sense in buying a product if I won’t use it at all or not use it prior to the expiration date.  Some of the women I saw were buying things they didn’t even need nor use just because it was such a great deal.  In my opinion that’s a waste of time and money.  It seems to be more of a hobby or a challenge than it is useful for some of them.
With that being said I do believe that using coupons and watching sale ads can be a very useful tool to save yourself some money.  These days we all can use to save a little bit of money on groceries.
I’m certainly not an extreme couponer by any means.  But after watching the show it has given me a little boost.  I was inspired to pay more attention and try to be more frugal.   Just last week I skimmed through the store ads, looked through my coupons and cut out the ones I knew I would use, and also took a survey of what I needed or would need in the next few weeks.
I tried to plan the best I could.  Mapping out the layout of the store and writing out the items and coupons accordingly.

CAN I GET A DRUM ROLL PLEASE!
My first official attempt I SAVED…
  $114

between sales ($37), coupons ($65), and my 5% off every purchase at Target ($12).  PLUS I got $20 in Target gift cards for buying 2 each of 4 products that I had coupons for already.
I must admit that I’m pretty darn proud of myself.

Have you been inspired?
How much have you saved?

  1. I feel the same way about that show. I have been using coupons since my maternity leave started when I had my oldest daughter. I love saving even a few cents if I can.
